Since we started in 2016 we found there are too many companies, “instructors” and individuals who attempt to provide information about Utah and Federal gun laws in training courses, on social media, and on websites. These people call themselves “instructors” but lack the ability to actually teach the content because they are incorrect due to their failure to do any actual research or talk to a good gun lawyer to know what the laws actually mean. Most are actually just self-taught YouTube “experts” or who teach only what they have been told by another “YouTube expert”. These are people who tell you what something means or how to do it a certain way because they saw a video about it or read about it online and have never done it or thought about how it works in the real world. Unfortunately, this misinformation can also come from lawyers who are expected to know the laws and what they mean. In turn, these lawyers are actually PAID to defend victims in court and the results can be devastating.
The way laws and Bills are written is not necessarily easy for the ordinary person to understand. They are in legal terms for lawyers, judges, and courts to determine the legality of something and can easily cause confusion. Laws are subject to interpretation meaning people may think it says one thing when it actually means something completely different. We see this every day when people try to tell us what the Second Amendment says. To most of us, it’s clear. To others, they think it means what they want to believe it means.
There are so many laws out there it is easy to just read one law and believe that is what is legal or illegal but forget there are other laws, that may, under certain circumstances exempt (meaning it doesn’t apply to you) what a person can or cannot do based on a different law. Due to this confusion, most companies and instructors do not truly understand what the laws actually mean and end up providing the wrong information making it even more confusing for you.
