Utah Hunting Laws
Regulations governing hunting, trapping, and fishing in Utah are contained in Utah statutes and wildlife administrative rules.
The Utah Legislature passes state statutes. The Utah Wildlife Board adopts wildlife rules. The DWR and Regional Advisory Councils make recommendations to the Wildlife Board, and DWR implements and enforces the laws and rules.

The Utah Legislature creates and modifies state statutes affecting wildlife. Most wildlife statutes are in Utah Code Title 23A, although other Utah statutes may also apply to hunting and fishing.

Private Property Permission Requirements
- Written permission is required to enter or cross properly posted private property for hunting or fishing.
- Written permission is also required to access unposted private property if the soil has been loosened or broken up for raising crops, crops are growing on the land, or the land is an irrigated pasture using a sprinkler system or ditches.
- A person who unlawfully takes wildlife while trespassing may face an additional class B misdemeanor. Wildlife taken unlawfully may also be seized.
Before Entering Private Property
Obtain written permission from the property owner or authorized representative when Utah's wildlife trespass provisions require it. Do not assume unposted land is open to hunting or fishing.
