Florida is a constitutional carry state. Eligible individuals 21 or older may carry concealed without a license. Active-duty service members and honorably discharged veterans may carry concealed at 18 or older.

Florida issues a Concealed Weapon or Firearm License (CWFL) to eligible applicants 18 or older.

For residents, a Florida CWFL provides additional reciprocity when traveling and exempts the holder from Florida’s mandatory firearm purchase waiting period.

For nonresidents, Florida issues CWFLs to eligible applicants 18 or older. The Florida CWFL can add New Mexico for residents of Alabama, Alaska, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin because New Mexico does not recognize those states’ permits but does recognize the Florida CWFL.

Florida may also be an option for applicants who cannot qualify for a permit in another state because Florida applies its own eligibility standards and disqualification periods. Being denied or disqualified from a permit in another state does not mean Florida will approve the applicant; applicants must still meet all Florida eligibility requirements.

Online Training

Florida allows the firearms-safety portion of qualifying training to be completed online, with the required live-fire portion completed separately in person.

Required Live Fire Qualification

The applicant must complete the required live-fire portion separately in person. A qualified instructor must personally observe the applicant safely handle and discharge a firearm using live ammunition.

Florida does not prescribe a statewide round count, target, shooting distance, timed course, or numerical passing score.

Florida CWFL Renewal

A Florida CWFL is valid for 7 years.

Florida does not require you to complete the original firearms training or live-fire requirement again for renewal.

Nonresident renewals require new fingerprints.

For nonresidents, the fingerprinting service cost is included when you purchase the Florida CWFL training course through Utah FAST, and you complete the required fingerprints through Utah FAST Fingerprinting.
