Washington Concealed Pistol License (CPL)

Washington requires a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) to carry a concealed pistol. Applicants must be 21 or older.

For residents, a Washington CPL allows you to carry a concealed pistol and allows a loaded pistol in a vehicle when Washington’s vehicle requirements are met. A CPL also provides specific exceptions for carrying in certain otherwise restricted locations, including certain school pickup and drop-off situations and municipal stadiums and convention centers.

For nonresidents, Washington issues CPLs to eligible applicants 21 or older. Nonresidents may apply through a law enforcement agency anywhere in Washington.

A Washington CPL adds Washington for residents of Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming because Washington does not recognize those states’ permits.
